Nassau Suffolk Services for Autism (NSSA) is offering a 2-day workshop for parents and family members of children affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) that will provide answers and critical information on the following:
• What is ASD and how does it affect a child . . . and a family?
• What are the benefits of parent training – why do parents need to learn how to teach?
• What is Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and why does my child and family need it? – basic principles of ABA and how they can help in managing daily life
• Incidental teaching – seizing and creating learning opportunities throughout your day-to-day lives and activities.
• Basic Problem Solving – how did we get here and what can we do to change and fix it?
• Siblings, schedules, and normal day to day chaos
• Common mistakes – how mixed messages and inconsistencies actually feed the very problems you are looking to solve.
This 2-day training will be offered on two consecutive days: November 6-7, 2019 from 10am-2pm. We would like those who register to please be able to commit to both days. It is important that you both attend all sessions to benefit fully from the workshop as Day 2 will build on Day 1. Attendance by both parents is strongly recommended. As parents you are a crucial component to your child’s learning and progress. ASD does not end when the bell rings and neither should learning. Please note that this workshop is ONLY being offered to parents and family members of children affected by ASD.
